When Animals Cross Over: Continuing the Conversation

My dog Toddy

When you look at my work, you’ll often see that I support animals at the end of life, those who are highly anxious or fearful, and those who have already crossed over. This includes what I call Spirit Animal Sessions—connections with animals who are no longer in their physical bodies.

People sometimes wonder how this kind of work is even possible. For me, as an intuitive, it’s actually quite simple. Whether an animal is still in the body or has left it, I connect with the soul essence. The physical form changes, but the soul does not disappear. Communication remains possible.

These sessions are especially precious when someone reaches out wanting to know:
How is my dog doing? How is my cat doing now?

What often comes through is not only reassurance, but profound wisdom. Many animals, once they have released their ailing bodies—whether naturally or through euthanasia—are able to relate to us in a very different way. Freed from physical limitation, their perspective expands.

I often use the word guide, and that’s intentional. I’ve found that animals carry immense wisdom. While they are in physical form—as dogs, cats, parrots, horses—there are certain constraints, just as there are limitations for us while we are in human bodies. Beyond the body, those constraints fall away.

What comes through instead is extraordinary compassion, clarity, and love.

This work doesn’t require any religious belief or spiritual affiliation. It’s simply about soul-to-soul connection. The bond we share with our animals is eternal, and communication can be effortless when we allow ourselves to open to it. When we do, it can be incredibly beautiful and deeply enriching.

Recently, I worked with a young woman whose childhood dog had passed. She is now an adult, reflecting on a relationship that began when she brought him home as a puppy. From her perspective, she raised him.

From his perspective—speaking from the spirit world—he raised her.

He viewed himself as her guardian, her guide, her steady presence as she grew. Of course, she also has human parents, but the emotional truth of their bond was clear. He spoke with tenderness about her heartbreak and shared what I call “job assignments”—ways she could carry his legacy forward into the world.

That session didn’t erase her grief. And this work is not about bypassing grief.

But it shifted her relationship to it.

She left with a new sense of meaning, comfort, and direction—held by compassion and an all-encompassing love that continues beyond physical death.

I’ve also put together a short video that shares more about Spirit Animal Sessions and what these soul-to-soul connections feel like. If you’re curious or want to experience a bit of this for yourself, you can watch it here:

I can speak to this not only through my work with clients, but through my own relationships with animals I’ve loved and lost. Time and again, I’ve witnessed how animals in spirit continue to walk with us, guide us, and remind us that love does not end.

It simply changes form.
