Radical Compassion — The Lighthouse Circle

A Circle of Sacred Witnessing for Animals

There are places in this world where immense suffering exists. Animals endure cruelty, neglect, exploitation, violence, and death. Many suffer unseen. Many leave this world without their names being spoken or their lives acknowledged. This circle invites those who feel called to meet that suffering with an open heart—not to turn away, not to become overwhelmed, but to stand in love.

We gather because cruelty is real. We gather because love is also real. We refuse to let cruelty have the final word.

The Heart of the Practice

This is not a practice of seeking suffering. It is a practice of meeting suffering when it is present.
We do not gather to amplify pain. We gather to amplify compassion until it is greater than suffering.

We do not deny what has happened. We do not minimize it. We do not look away. Instead, we cultivate the strength to remain present and let love move through us.

Like a lighthouse in a storm, we do not stop the waves. We simply remain lit. Courage is not the absence of heartbreak. Courage is the willingness to remain present when the heart breaks open.

Sacred Witness

Naming matters. In this circle, we speak specific names. We tell specific stories - a dog who endured prolonged abuse before her death, a being who waited for a hand that never came. We say plainly what happened.

This is not for shock. It is so that no one remains anonymous. A story spoken aloud restores what cruelty tried to erase: that this was a life, and it mattered. We speak to witness. We hold enough to honor. We open enough to love.

The Invitation to Be Brave

This circle asks something real of us: the courage to face what is difficult instead of turning away.
That courage is not comfortable. But it is where our strength lives.

Each time we choose to stay present with suffering rather than flee it, we discover a capacity in ourselves we didn't know was there — an inner light that does not flinch.

This is alchemy. We take what is hardest to face and, by meeting it fully, transform it — not into more pain, but into conscious love.

What entered the circle as grief leaves the circle as light, radiating outward into the world.

The Practice: Tonglen

Our meditation is rooted in the Buddhist practice of Tonglen. On the in-breath, we breathe in the suffering of beings who endured fear, pain,
loneliness, or terror — not to carry it as our own, but to open our hearts without fear.
On the out-breath, we offer: Love. Peace. Safety. Freedom. Healing. Rest.We allow compassion and our inner light to flow where suffering has been.

Calling Upon Greater Forces

We do not do this work alone. Each participant is invited to call upon whatever they hold sacred — enlightened beings, angels, deities, spirit guides, animal guardians, ancestors, the Divine, or simply the limitless field of compassion itself.
Together, our hearts become part of something larger.

The Prayer Bowl

At each gathering, we keep a prayer bowl at the center of our circle. Into it, we place the names of those who have passed — and more than that, we speak to them. We offer a blessing, a word of love, a message carried across the distance between worlds.

It is a small vessel that holds something large: that every life mattered, that our voices can reach them, and that even in loss, there is room for connection and joy.

Join Us

This circle gathers once a month, online, held over Zoom. There is no charge to attend. If you feel moved to offer alove donation in support of this work, it is welcome—but never required. Come as you are. Come with an open heart, ready to witness, to breathe, and to become part of the light.

Closing Dedication

May every animal who suffered know they were not forgotten.
May every being who knew fear and pain be held in compassion.

May those who died in terror find peace.
May those who protect and care for animals be strengthened.

Let compassion become stronger than cruelty.
We cannot stop every storm. We cannot undo every act of cruelty. But we can choose to keep the light burning. Together, we become a lighthouse of compassion - standing in the storm, rooted in presence, radiating love.

Every act of courage in this circle becomes light. Every story met with love becomes light.
We carry what we alchemize here back into the world.

This is Radical Compassion.
